Akita Picture

A colorful Akita picture alone projects an exquisite aura of grace and dignity – the qualities that have been cultivated in the breed for more than two millenniums. Akitas are large and sturdy dogs with a stout standing, determined glance and willful temperament. They combine the intelligence of a German Shepherd, the grand elegance of a Great Dane and the infinite determination of a Mastiff.

These dogs appreciate the same qualities in their owners and may undertake an attempt to gain supremacy over their loved ones. It takes a firm and straightforward personality on the owner’s side to stop it; therefore, Akita Dogs are not for everyone. There are two types of Akitas, which are viewed as separate breeds: the Akita Inu, which is now Japan’s National Monument, and the American Akita. The American Akita retains its characteristic spitz-like appearance made up by a very thick and neat double-coat, small almond-shaped eyes, wedge-shaped head and small erectile ears. The dog is similar to the Akita Inu, its direct ancestor. However, the Japanese Akita Inu has a limited array of coat colors with only five of them permitted by the breed standard: Sesame, White, Brindle, Red and Fawn, while there is no strict color limitation on the American Akita. Akita pictures reveal some semblance of a German Shepherd dog, which is not for nothing, because the latter did contribute to the Akita’s gene pool in the 1920s.

Historically, Akitas are known to be unsurpassed hunters. In ancient times, they used to be engaged in hunting game much larger than themselves, such as bear, wild boar, antelopes and deer. Enviable endurance coupled with unswerving integrity and determination to finish the job assigned to them, to say nothing of eternal fidelity and love, endeared the dog to old Japanese aristocrats forever. In addition, Akita dogs are physically fit to withstand long runs over all sorts of terrain and can work under very tough weather conditions. Just a brief look at an Akita picture seems to create an impression of a reliable and self-sacrificing friend.

There are hundreds of Akita pictures available on the Internet and by which one can learn to recognize this remarkable dog. However, a broader understanding of the breed requires a closer look both at its external characteristics and temperamental traits. This is not a kind of dog to be purchased randomly, and it takes a rich experience to properly raise and discipline such a dog.

Akitas tend to be aggressive in asserting their own status in the family, which they often view as their “pack”. Being notoriously dog-aggressive and suspicious of strangers, they require timely socialization in order to prevent accidents in future. Like any intelligent mind, theirs calls for incessant stimulation through various activities. Because these dogs are not very active indoors, they do better with a spacious yard. As we can see, an Akita picture is just an add-on to the whole kit of knowledge, devotion, experience and other mental and material items one needs to get a clear idea of the Akita dog and what it takes to be an owner of one.
