Akitas are bred in a variety of colors and markings, including white, brindle, and pinto. Except for the white, all of them have dark area around the muzzle. That is a breed of working dogs that has been found in the mountains of northern Japan and in 1931 the Japanese government announced that breed a national treasure. These are very powerful, muscular dogs with a broad head with rigid, rather small pointed ears, and a large curved tail carried over the back or curled against the flank.
